A Life Choice

One day at school I walked into second period. When I saw my friend she said she had to tell me something extremely important. She looked as if her world had come crashing down but I just assumed she and her boyfriend had broken up. I sat down next to her and quietly asked her what was wrong. “I am pregnant”, she responded, barely being able to hold back the tears. I thought to myself “WOW” that is far from a break up. I asked her what she was going to do being 16 and having a baby. She told me she planned on having an abortion. My face must have turned chalk white. I was now more shocked by her solution than to her actual pregnancy. The whole 55 minutes of class I was only focused on helping my friend!

I almost ruined our friendship when I told her that if she went through with the abortion that I wouldn’t be her friend anymore. As the reality of her problem really set in, I realized that she needs a friend right now and I could not abandon her.

When my mom came to get me from school that day, I got in the car and couldn’t stop crying. I knew it wasn’t my baby but it was my best friend’s. I realized that I had to tell my mom. That night my mom and I looked up information on abortion. We found a helpful site called Lifechoices.org. I printed out some information  and took it to my friend the next day.

I even told her that my mom would take her to the Life Choices office so that they could talk about how to get through it and to talk about adoption agencies. Well my friend finally told her family about the baby, and she told her mom about Life Choices.

So her and her mom went and they let her see her baby via ultrasound. The next day she came to school and told me that she wanted to keep the baby and she showed me the picture. She told me that she was 2 months along and then she thanked me for helping her save her and her baby. I remember telling her that if she got and abortion she would regret it the rest of her life.  After she got the ultrasound I think that she finally realized how wrong it would be to kill her baby, her flesh in blood. It would not only be wrong to have an abortion it would be murder. My opion about abortion is that it should be against the law everywhere.
